I need an opinion from everyone.

The Grenth pic is coming along nicely, and I'm liking how it's all working out and such. Still need to add in the souls of the dead begging at his feet.

But I feel like it needs to be more frightening, more "GOOD GRACIOUS WINTER ISN'T GOING TO END!!!"

So I'm highly considering a joking comment I made earlier about Grenth holding Dwayna's disembodied head. The header/whatever you want to call it for the drawing is "Winter will never end". Well, not if Dwayna's still around. Maybe Grenth got sick of the silly fights every year and decided to just end it permanently.

Eye catching? Yes

It's either that or he has to be holding something spring-related and killing it with frost. Like a plant or something. I'm still partial to Dwayna's head... But, I'll let you guys decide.

Maybe make the pic look colder somehow? Does it have to be Dwayna's head? I am a bit squaemish - what about him clutching her throat - that would mean you have to draw Dwayna too though ^^

This is just my personal opinion, but I find that gore, unless it is the focus of the piece/theme/scenario from the beginning , is the worst way to generate fear. Sure, no one wants to watch gore but it is very blunt and to the point; there is no suspense, anxiety, or provocation of thought to consume you.

So, still just my opinion, but I would try and impliment something subtle but creepy.

Ex. To try and explain what I mean. What would you find scarier/more terrifying/had a bigger impact:
Watching someone be grabbed by [insert monster or horror villain of choice] and having their arm cut off
or
Watching someone be taken away, but see them partially come back struggling to hold onto something, then taken away completely followed by blood-curtling screams.
I find that thrill/fright/suspense comes from having your audience be able to interpret the worst thing imaginable. Because, more than likely, they will think of something much, much worse than anything you could have showed them upfront.

So relating it back to your piece, is there a way to imply that dwayna's been be-headed without showing her severed head, or corpse? Possibly something along the lines of crushing part of the headress she wears here? Perhaps even having feathers drifting out of his hand [blood could be lightly applied to them, to show they arent just assorted feathers but feathers of something dead] could be enough.

That way you know that she's dead, but you don't know how she died. You may think of beheaded, someone else may think of being skinned. Skinned would be much worse IMO, yet would be too violent to depict and would negatively impact the piece.

Gonna have to agree with DBAA on gore. It's not frightening, nor is it horror. It's gross, yes, but nothing more.

You'd be better off having a swarm of insects in Grenth's hand, as there's a large number of people afraid of bugs (especially when large or in excess). But that's not very Grenth-y (unless they're Humbugs, aka spiders, I guess).

A severed head need not be slathered in buckets of gore. But it does succinctly symbolize defeat, which I suspect may be the point.

I would, however, play the tune you feel the judges would be most likely to accept.

I had the same reaction as obastable; very high quality work there Tee Wrex! I literally thought it was a screenshot from the game, until I realized the snow was cotton balls (or something similar, im sure they sell fake snow). Then i realized it was the sculpture!

It looks like a wooden carving thats been painted even though i know its sculpey. Again, awesome work!

Ferocious: Bahah; the expression on the gaki's face is priceless! I will admit I didn't get it at first, but then i went and read the title and burst out laughing. Such a great idea!

Welcome both of you to the workshop! I hope you stay around and help share the atmosphere ^^

AS FOR ME. Still nothing. I know, I suck. I bombed a chemistry test today so I'm not feeling too great about that, and ive got another test tomorrow. I had a little bit of time, but I spent it making a drawing for a friend going through some hard times that needed some cheering up (and that seemed a little more important; making someones day

)

Essentially, School school school... schoolschool, schoolschool schoolschoolschool. Did I mention school?

If I can't conjure up time any time soon, the extended workshop deadline DOES allow me to work on my piece while I'm on holiday break (starts 23rd, due date around jan 1st ish. plenty of time!) So, worst comes to worst, I'll start with my break.

Thank you both so much!!! I tried to make him look like a woodcarving!!! I had started one in wood, but I knew his horns would be too fragile - and several spots would be too weak - so I RE-did what I had begun in clay, but used the same look!! I was able to get more texture this way though, and am really happy with him! He makes me smile! LOL

I know Fer and I were talking about a caption for his Gaki pic, but we haven't thought of anything thats quite right yet! Brainstorming....
